The 2016 Focus RS reaches 266 km / h and accelerates from 0-100 km / h in 4.7 s. By size, type of traction power and is an alternative to models like the Audi RS 3 Sportback, the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG or BMW 135i xDrive. By price, from € 40,260, it is preferable to any of them (cost between 44 450 and € 59 800; comparative tab). Deliveries will begin in 2016.
The engine is a modified version of the 2.3 EcoBoost has the Ford Mustang. The main changes are in the butt, which is more resistant and withstands higher temperatures and in the turbocharger, which is of low inertia and double entry (or "Twin Scroll"). In addition there are some changes in the intake system and the exhaust. It gives 350 hp at 6000 rpm; 100 rpm earlier, a witness in the instrument panel lights up and, if the maximum rate of rotation (6800 rpm) is reached flashes. An 'overboost' function allows an increased maximum torque (from 440 to 470 nm) for 15 seconds. The gearbox is six-speed manual, with no option to automatic.
According to Ford, the Focus RS, the first all-wheel drive, it is "slightly heavier than the previous" because of this system, but has not given a figure to compare. Its operation has nothing to do with wearing a Kuga. Depending on the conditions of adhesion, two clutches (seven discs) hydraulically operated, located on either side of the rear coupling, are responsible for dividing torque, both longitudinally-the clutches are driven by a shaft of transmission-as in any cross direction on the rear wheels.
The distribution in the longitudinal direction can be up to 70 percent of torque to the rear wheels while the distribution between the rear wheels ranging from 0 to 100 percent of torque reaching the rear coupling (depending on whether the corresponding clutch is open, closed or coupled at an intermediate level). This allows the AWD system intervene on the path (making the outside rear wheel makes more torque than the inside cornering is improved) in collaboration with the traction control (which does something similar but on the front wheels , slowing the inside to the outside will get more torque).
The front suspension keeps the same schedule as the other models in the Focus range -independent type McPherson, but the back is different (Ford has not provided more information). Besides the springs, stabilizer bars and bushings are firmer than in the ST version and cushions, which are electronically controlled. The braking system is made by Brembo.
Four-Normal, Sport, Tennis and "Drift mode" programs - selectable by the driver to change the engine response and performance of all-wheel drive, damping, steering, engine sound and stability control. The "Drift Mode" setting is intended to "help the driver to perform a controlled oversteer skidding circuit."
In addition to different mechanical changes, the RS is distinguished from other versions of the Focus range because it has a bumper with a different design, a rear aerodynamic diffuser (in the central part of which is the fog lamp), a large spoiler dimensions on top of the gate and alloy wheels 19 inches in diameter with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in sizes 235/35 (optionally you can choose a Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2). In addition there are different logos with the initials RS scattered at various points of the body.
In the interior changes they are smaller and some bucket seats manufactured by Recaro, a different decorative molding on the dashboard and doors and aluminum pedals are limited. As in the ST version, on top of the console there are three additional indicators that provide information about the oil pressure, its temperature and the charge pressure (image).
The RS may have items of equipment such as emergency braking system (Active City Stop), the SYNC multimedia system with eight-inch touch screen and rear camera parking aid. You can choose between four exterior colors: Nitrous Blue (which appears in the image gallery), Stealth Grey, Black and White Shadow Crystal.
The Focus RS 2016 is the third generation of this release. In 2003 Ford launched the first Focus RS, which had a petrol engine with four cylinders and 215 hp (more information). In 2008 he went on sale the second generation, which had a petrol engine with five cylinders and 305 hp (more information). This latest generation also was limited to 500 units with the same five-cylinder engine but with a number of modifications to the power set to rise to 350 hp.
